With the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh, the national humanitarian development organization Impact Initiative has launched a skills development training program for the Rohingya community at Camp 11 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, with the aim of enhancing livelihoods, strengthening self-reliance, and improving the overall well-being of the displaced Rohingya population.
The initiative, titled “Sustainable Opportunities for Livelihoods, Advancement and Resilience (SOLAR),” was formally inaugurated on Monday, 31 August 2026, at the Multipurpose Building of Rohingya Camp 11 in Ukhiya.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Md. Shariful Islam, Deputy Secretary and Camp-in-Charge of Camp 11, as the Chief Guest. The event was chaired by Mr. Md. Enayet Hossain, Chief Executive Officer of Impact Initiative.
Under the SOLAR initiative, 325 interested participants from Camp 11 will receive practical, market-oriented technical training in Tailoring and Dress Making, Block Printing and Batik, Mobile Phone Servicing, Gas Burner Repair, and Climate-Smart Agriculture.
In addition, 675 participants will receive soft skills training designed to strengthen their communication, teamwork, problem-solving, workplace behavior, and other essential life and employability skills.
Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Md. Shariful Islam, Camp-in-Charge of Camp 11, said, “Skills development and practical livelihood training can play an important role in strengthening the capacity and self-reliance of the Rohingya community. Initiatives such as SOLAR will help participants develop practical skills and prepare themselves for future livelihood opportunities.”
Mr. Md. Enayet Hossain, Chief Executive Officer of Impact Initiative, said, “With the generous support of the Embassy of China, Impact Initiative is creating opportunities for the Rohingya community to develop practical and market-relevant skills. Through the SOLAR initiative, we aim to strengthen their capacity, resilience, and prospects for sustainable livelihoods.”
The SOLAR initiative seeks to complement humanitarian assistance with skills development and livelihood-focused interventions, enabling Rohingya community members to build practical capacities and strengthen their resilience in the face of prolonged displacement and changing circumstances.
With the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh and the initiative of Impact Initiative, the SOLAR program is expected to contribute to skills development, livelihood opportunities, and greater self-reliance among members of the Rohingya community.
